About the Image Converter

This tool changes a picture's file format among PNG, JPEG, and WebP. Keep one detail in mind: JPEG has no transparency, so converting a transparent PNG to JPEG flattens the see-through areas onto a solid background. Going the other way, from a JPEG to PNG, will not restore any detail the JPEG already lost - it just rewraps the existing pixels in a lossless container, often at a larger size. For transparent graphics that must stay light, WebP is the better target. The conversion is done entirely in your browser, so your files are never uploaded.

What happens to transparency when I convert PNG to JPEG?

JPEG does not support an alpha channel, so any transparent pixels are filled with a solid background color, usually white or black. If you need to keep transparency, convert to WebP or stay on PNG.

Does converting JPEG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG is lossless, but it can only preserve the pixels it is given. A JPEG has already discarded detail, so the PNG just stores that same data without further loss, typically in a larger file.

Why would I convert to WebP?

WebP usually delivers smaller files than PNG or JPEG at comparable quality and supports transparency, which makes it a strong choice for fast-loading web images.
