About the Discount Calculator
This calculator turns a "percent off" deal into real numbers. Given an original price and a discount rate, it works out the amount you save and the final price you actually pay. It is built for shoppers comparing sale tags, coupon codes and seasonal promotions where the headline percentage hides the true saving.
How to use it
- Enter the original price before any reduction.
- Enter the discount percentage, for example
25for a quarter off. - Read the savings and the final price, both updating live.
A practical tip: to combine two discounts, such as 20 percent off then a further 10 percent at the till, apply them one after the other rather than adding them, because 20 plus 10 is not the same as a single 30 percent reduction. This tool covers a single discount; chain it twice for stacked offers. It runs locally in your browser, so your prices are never uploaded or stored.
Frequently asked questions
How do I work out the price after a discount?
Multiply the original price by (100 minus the discount percent) and divide by 100. For example, 25 percent off 80 leaves 80 x 75 / 100, which is 60. The calculator shows both the saving and the final price.
How do I stack two discounts correctly?
Apply them in sequence, not by adding the percentages. A 20 percent then 10 percent discount on 100 gives 100 x 0.8 x 0.9 = 72, which is a 28 percent total saving, not 30 percent.
Does the discount include sales tax?
No. This calculator works with the pre-tax price. If tax applies, calculate the discount first, then add tax to the reduced price using the sales tax calculator.
Is my pricing data kept private?
Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is sent to a server or stored anywhere.
