Time Converter
Turn a duration into any other unit of time - see how many seconds are in a day, or how many weeks make up a year, in one tap.
About the Time Converter
This tool converts a duration between units of time, from nanoseconds and milliseconds up through seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. It is for turning one span of time into another - not for working with clock times or dates.
How to use it
- Enter a duration into its field, for example a timeout in seconds.
- Read the equivalent in minutes, hours or days.
- Use the small units like milliseconds and nanoseconds when working with code timings or benchmarks.
A common use is sanity-checking durations, such as confirming a day is 86,400 seconds or that a week is 604,800 seconds. One caveat: months and years are not fixed lengths. This converter treats a year as 365.25 days and a month as one twelfth of that (about 30.44 days) to account for leap years on average, so month and year results are approximate rather than calendar-exact. All calculations run in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
How many seconds are in a day?
A standard day has 86,400 seconds: 24 hours x 60 minutes x 60 seconds. A week therefore contains 604,800 seconds.
How many weeks are in a year?
A common year of 365 days contains about 52.14 weeks, which is why 52 weeks plus one or two days is left over each year.
How long is a month in this converter?
Because calendar months vary from 28 to 31 days, the tool uses an average month of about 30.44 days (one twelfth of 365.25 days), so monthly results are approximate.
How many milliseconds are in a second?
There are 1000 milliseconds in a second, 1,000,000 microseconds, and 1,000,000,000 nanoseconds. These small units are useful for software and hardware timing.
